There is a fine line between substance abuse and substance use. Substance abuse is defined as a pattern of harmful use of a particular substance. When the general population talks about drug abuse, they are more than likely referring to illegal drugs. However, it’s important to keep in mind that even legal drugs can be addictive.!!!

Alcohol, prescription medication, over-the-counter medicines, inhalants, and even coffee or cigarettes can be extremely addictive and cause issues for the addict in his or her life.
How do you know that you are addicted? It can be a difficult thing to admit: that you have an addiction that needs to be dealt with. There are many signs that a recreational drug use has transformed into drug abuse. If the addict uses alone, has lied to their physician in order to obtain prescription medication, stolen to obtain drugs, or has been arrested as a result of using drugs, the odds are that he or she is, indeed, addicted. Also, if the addict’s personal, school or work life is affected by his or her drug use, then that is a warning sign of drug abuse as well. Once the addict has admitted to him- or herself that their drug use and turned to abuse, it’s time to get help.
Finding the right treatment program is very important for an addict to recover. No one approach to dealing with addiction is right for everyone. Every individual is different and needs different care. There are many different places where you can get help figuring out which treatment center is right for you. Addicted.com is one of these places. The staff at Addicted.com is licensed professionals and will be able to help you to find the most appropriate treatment program for you.

You are right! The first step in healing from drug or alcohol addiction is to recognize that you really have a problem. If you lie yourself that you’re not an addict, than… there is no chance of healing… An addiction treatment (http://www.cliffsidemalibu.com/) asks for a lot of patience and will.

From tobacco to alcohol, marijuana to cocaine, all of these are highly addictive and shouldn't be consumed without some control. People are looking for thrills and new feelings but they just don't realize they are simply getting addicted to a substance at every use.

I think you can admit to yourself all day long that you have a problem...so what...the mental obsession of an addict is so powerful that it is beyond human aid...most treatment facilities simply detox people and send them to AA when the real recovery starts...no judge...no wife...no jail...no threat of any kind ever kept me sober...or clean...only one problem....the junk ALWAYS RUNS OUT...NO MATTER WHAT...then the REAL problem starts...I can't believe I am reading these posts on an addiction blog...must not be any REAL addicts recovering and sharing what it is really like on the streets...

Tn our days, everything can cause an addiction. The big problem is that with the drugs. People die every year from these and this is too bad. Too see the world going down because of some chemical that was created to make people feel better.

People abuse substances such as drugs, alcohol, and tobacco for varied and complicated reasons, but it is clear that our society pays a significant cost. The toll for this abuse can be seen in our hospitals and emergency departments through direct damage to health by substance abuse and its link to physical trauma. Jails and prisons tally daily the strong connection between crime and drug dependence and abuse. Although use of some drugs such as cocaine has declined, use of other drugs such as heroin and "club drugs" has increased.
